Oscar Party 2013

In February, Elaine hosted her annual Oscar party filled with glitz and glamour. It was as if Hollywood came to Jackson.

She does this every year. Last year, it was 2 days prior to Miles' birth. This year, he got to take part in the festivities.

We watched the Oscars with some of her favorite people. We also played games, got to dress up in our finest, and ate wonderful food.

Miles was great and was the hit of the party!

Miles is 12 months

Miles is one year old! It is so hard to believe that he was born only a year ago. Time goes by way too fast these days and seems like it just gets faster and faster each year.

In February (when he turned 1), Miles was 25 pounds and 31.5 inches long.

We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to be with our little man these past 12+ months. He truly melts our hearts and fills our souls with joy. I never knew that loving another human being could be so amazing, but it is. And it gets better each day. We only hope and pray he continues to be a happy, healthy, rambunctious little guy. Matt and I are so incredibly blessed with this perfect human being. We have sure had a blast watching him grow up to be a toddler. I know one day soon we will look back on this time in our lives and wish it was still there. That is why we take each day in stride and take the good times with the bad. All of our fellow parents, especially new parents, out there understand that it is not an easy road to raise little ones. However, we have found that if you work together, you can accomplish so much more.

Thanks to Matt for being my teammate in this whole parent thing. I cannot imagine what I would do if he wasn't there. You see, he gets to wake up with Miles every weekday morning because I have to be at work before 7am. Some may think that he would not be happy with that. Yet, he never grumbles. He enjoys the quality time he gets to spend with Miles. He sends me silly pictures and makes me wish I was home to experience it first hand. I am so grateful that Miles has an amazing father!

So...let's push this mushy gushy stuff aside and get to the fun things....

He was very upset at me for making him sit in this picture. He wanted to walk around. Typical Miles!

This month's MILEStones:

  • I am walking everywhere and practically running.
  • I am dancing.
  • I am still in size 4 diapers.
  • I am wearing 18-24 month clothes and some 2T's.
  • I am throwing fits when I dont' get my way.
  • I love TV, especially when it has singing on it.
  • I still like Elmo.
  • My new favorite TV shows are the Bubble Guppies and Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.
  • I LOVE real milk and don't take formula anymore.
  • My favorite foods are spaghetti and green beans.
  • I take 2 naps a day.
  • I have been going to Parents' Day Out and like it.
  • I like to turn the lights on and off.
  • I am talking in my own language.

Miles turned 1 on Thursday, February 28th. We spent the evening together, and went to dinner with Mimi at the Jackson Country Club.

He got his own birthday cupcake after the mess he made at dinner.

He kept wanting to grab the candle.

Then, after dinner, he had his first REAL milk bottle. He downed it in about 2 minutes!!

Miles, the Party Animal

On Saturday, February 23, we celebrated Miles' first birthday. What a MILEStone! We had his party at Mimi's house because our house is too small for all of the people we invited. I think it worked out pretty well. Some of our close friends and wonderful family were on hand for the celebration--including, Mimi, Uncle Trey, Honey, JoePa, NeNe, Uncle Alvin, Lynda Climer, Mommie Cica, RanRan, Meemaw, Papaw, Hannah & Colson Matlock, Shawn and Clarkie Graham, Megan Seals (who photographed the party beautifully), Miles' Fairy Janet (who came all the way from Texas), Margie (Miles' babysitter) and her husband, Aunt Julie, Diane Sain, Aunt Lisa, Uncle Mike, Catie Beth, Mary Claire, and of course Matt, me, and the birthday boy.

A teacher friend of mine made Miles' birthday cake, which was just for him. Matt and I made cupcakes--yes, he actually helped me decorate them!!

We had lots of yummy goodies for our guests to eat as well as a ball pit for Miles and Colson to play in. Oh, and if you are wondering....Elmo was the theme of the day b/c that is Miles' favorite character. I couldn't pass it up.

Miles loved the make shift ball pit...even though he was a little tired.

Seeing JoePa cheered him up a little bit, though. Miles loves his JoePa and wanted to hang out with him during the whole party.

We sang happy birthday to the birthday boy....

And then we let him dig in....

Miles was ok with his cake. I figured he would dig in immediately, but to my surprise, he didn't. He kind of sat there waiting on me to tell him, "No. No. Don't do that." He loves sweets. However, we now know that he doesn't like sweets or sticky icing on his fingers. We enjoyed watching him try to eat his cake anyway.

He eventually warmed up to the cake, somewhat, and had a little fun. I think he just needed to wake up a little bit.

Needless to say...after the cake eating...we had to give this little red face a bath! Then...came presents...

And boy did he get a lot of presents!! A BIG thank you to everyone for his gifts.

After presents came play time...

...with Mommie Cica and some bubbles.

Next, it was more pictures....

Miles had an amazing first birthday...so amazing that I don't know how I am going to make his parties in the future better than his first. We are incredibly blessed to have such loving people in our lives, who took time out of their weekends to spend with our special little man. He had a blast at his party. Thanks to Mimi for allowing us to crash her house for the day!

Howdy strangers....

I know it has been too long since my last post, and I know that excuses are like armpits, everyone has one. However, with all that said...life has been really busy lately. It is challenging trying to balance an active toddler (I can't believe I just said that. My little guy isn't a baby anymore.) with a full time job and training for a half marathon, and trying to fit in time with my husband. Whew! It makes me tired just talking about it. With all of that said, I apologize for the lack of posting. I've truly missed blogging and I have a lot of updating to do. So....as I used to say in the news world...."stay tuned", more on our life is coming soon, including Miles' first birthday party, first haircut, first trip to the beach, and first experience with Seasme Street Live. See...I told you we've been busy.

I'll leave you with a picture that I love the most...it is from our trip to Naples, FL, to see Mimi and Papa.
