Once Upon a Time a little Bookworm Turned 2

On Saturday, March 1st, we celebrated Miles' 2nd birthday with a Bookworm party at Mimi's house, because he is our little bookworm and enjoys reading books.

We served food that had something to do with different children's books.

We had pigs in a blanket (The 3 Little Pigs), veggie tray (Peter Pan), fruit (the Very Hungry Caterpillar), pizza (Curious George and the Pizza Party), and chocolate chip cookies (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie).

We even had Lorax punch!

And of course cake!

We had an amazing turnout, considering that the infamous ice storm was on its way to the Mid South. In fact, it was such a nice day outside, we opened the doors and let the kids and adults outside to enjoy the sunshine.

We asked guests to bring a donation to the Madison County Imagination Library in Miles' name instead of gifts. Why? Because he has everything already. However, I guess people couldn't help themselves.

And Miles did not want any part in opening the plethora of presents.

He really wanted to play outside. We had to DRAG him in to open presents and sing happy birthday.

Just proof that Miles wants to do what he wants to do when he wants to do it!

We appreciate everyone who came and helped us set up and clean up the party. We had a great time and are very grateful to our friends and family! We don't know what we'd do without you.

2 Years Old

Our sweet, lovable, smart, and energetic baby is not a baby anymore. On February 28, he turned 2! He is a toddler who thinks he is five or six. We have loved every minute of seeing Miles grow over the past two years. He is such a blessing to us!

What a difference 2 years makes?! He is still just as sweet as he was the day he came into our lives.

Miles is super smart. I know I am a mom and I am going to gloat on my son. However, he freaks me out sometimes with his keen sense of memory and picking up on things. He is also a big boy! He's in the 90th percentile for height, measuring 37" at his 2 year old checkup. He is in the 75th percentile for weight at a whopping 30 pounds...try pushing that around in a stroller while on a jog with a pregnant belly!

So here are some of this year's MILEStones:

  • I am still wearing diapers, but I am beginning to use the potty occasionally.
  • I don't drink milk anymore.
  • I can say my ABC's.
  • I can count to 10.
  • I can recognize every letter of the alphabet.
  • I LOVE playing with "kahs" or cars.

  • I am beginning to make sentences.
  • I pitch fits when I don't get my way.
  • I enjoy playing hide and seek, especially in pillows on beds or on the floor.
  • I sleep in when its just daddy at home, but I get up early when mommy is there.
  • I can talk...and boy do I do a lot of that.
  • I am beginning to sit in a booster seat when we eat out.
  • I recognize people in person and in pictures.
  • I know that "Minner" (Miller) is the baby in mommy's belly.
  • I love eating cheese, mac and cheese, grilled cheese, cheese quesadillas, and did I say cheese?
  • I have started taking vitamins because I refuse to eat vegetables. If it is green, I want it off my plate!
  • I am OCD and have to have things perfect, like my cars all lined up in a row, or my place mat facing the right direction.
  • I love carrying around screen printed shirts. My favorite shirts are "Elmo shirt" and "Brobee shirt".
  • I love stuffed animals.
  • I LOVE playing outside.

  • I call every cat I know or see "abby" b/c it is my Hidee's cat.
  • I can recognize the colors pink, orange, purple, blue, green, yellow, black and red.
  • I can say all of those colors except yellow.
  • I LOVE buses and point them out by shouting "bus" every time I see one.
  • I enjoy playing on Mommy's "iPlay" or iPad.

Miles' favorite restaurant is Chick-Fil-A, which is ok in my eyes. His favorite food is still macaroni and cheese.

We are truly blessed to have such an amazing, perfect, little guy. We are excited to see him become a big brother to Miller later on this year. He already points at my belly and says, "Milnuh". Miles also offers Miller toys, shirts, and cars. Wonder if that will last when Miller arrives?

Miles loves dancing, especially if Elmo is singing.

Miles loves animals and knows all of their sounds.

Saying Goodbye to Our Roaring 20's

On December 14th, with a number of our wonderful friends and family, Matt and I celebrated leaving behind our 20's....

 And heading into our 30's....

IN 1920's STYLE!

We held a 1920's themed party at one of the best venues in Jackson (anyone looking for a place to have a nice event or wedding needs to check it out). It is a hidden gem in our city's downtown area. The Cumberland House is a post Civil War era home that was once owned by a Jackson doctor. We chose to have our party here b/c of its history and old fashioned style. It was simply perfect!

The house has two stories....the upstairs

with a foyer-where we had a photo booth

and two white rooms-where we had cake, champagne,

1920's jazz music and dancing!

Then, on the lower level of the house, there were two rooms. One, had tables and chairs-where we had the food

and giggle water (aka: tasty adult beverages). Off this room was a full kitchen where we prepared food as well as a bathroom for guests to use.

Then, there was another room where we sat up a black jack table.

We were thrilled and incredibly grateful to celebrate this new era with our friends and family who attended! Everyone was asked to dress in 1920's attire and we served food that had something to do with the 1920's. Here's a group picture.

We danced, ate, drank, and were very merry. Here are some pictures from our fun night back in the 1920's.

In lieu of gifts, we asked our guests to bring cans that we donated to the RIFA soup kitchen. A HUGE thank you to Elaine, my mom, meemaw and my bestie Julie. These ladies spent time, money, and man power getting all of what you saw in those pictures, party ready. I couldn't have pulled it off without them, and for that we are extremely blessed.
