Miles' Busy Weekend

This past Friday, May 17th, was Papaw's 73rd birthday. We celebrated it big with family dinner in West Memphis. We drove there after school on Friday.

Miles ran around the yard in his diaper. I know it is a little unorthodox for us, but he was playing in Meemaw's fountain and we didn't want him to get soaked.

He enjoyed doting on Papaw....

...and Meemaw. OR maybe they enjoyed doting on him?

After the presents, cake, ice cream, and celebrating, we headed back to Jackson. We decided last minute to forgo staying the night because Matt had something he had to do Saturday morning. Plus we had guests coming for a visit....

Uncle Joe and Ran Ran came to stay with us on Saturday. We all went to the Jackson Generals game.

Miles enjoyed the game, music, food, and of course some of Uncle Joe's ice cream.

On Sunday, we all went to church. Mimi got back in town ,too, so, she came to church with us. Then, we all went to Olive Garden for lunch. Miles had some spaghetti and mashed potatoes.

He used his hands instead of the spoon.

After Uncle Joe and Ran Ran went home, we went over to Mimi's house to watch the Grizzlies lose (sadly) and hang out with Mimi and Uncle Trey. We grilled out steaks for dinner.

Miles had some one on one time with Uncle Trey, who showed him some Elmo videos on youtube. Despite all of the running around, we had a pretty awesome weekend.

Mother's Day & Miles' first trip to the Zoo

On Mother's Day, Matt, Miles, and I went to early early church. It actually worked out really well and there were more parents there during that particular service.

After church, we came home to get dressed and Miles gave me an amazing Mother's Day present....

I got a nice coffee maker, which is a lot different than what I was using. Now I can have my coffee in the morning before I come to school. Yay!

After presents, we face timed with Mimi, and then we went to Memphis to see Honey and Meemaw.

We met Honey, JoePa, RanRan, Uncle Joe, Meemaw, and Papaw at Central BBQ for some yummy ribs. Next, on the agenda....

The Memphis Zoo...one of my favorite places!

Aren't they cute? Love these two and so happy they joined us.

Meemaw and Papaw decided to forgo the zoo because of all the walking. We hated they missed it, but were happy to eat lunch with them.

It was Miles' very first visit to the zoo.

We saw some flamingos....

and some ducks.

Of course, JoePa didn't mind showing him the ducks.

Then, Honey took Miles to see the bears.

Yet, Miles was more interested in a huge water fountain.

So, RanRan braved the elements first and took him to see it.

Then, it was Uncle Joe's turn.

Next, JoePa took a stab at showing Miles the fountain.

Finally, once it got to Daddy's turn, Miles was SOAKED!

But he enjoyed every minute of it and didn't want to leave the fountain.

Needless to say, Honey and I had to take Miles to the bathroom for a wardrobe change. His shoes were still wet, but I did pack extra pants, onesie, and shirt. My fellow toddler moms out there completely understand why I had extras, too! :)

After his escapade with the fountain, we all ventured over to see the elephants.

I think Miles like the elephants the best. He actually got to see them walk and eat and I think they were big enough for him to notice. If he is anything like his Mommy, he will like elephants best!

After the African animals, we all traveled to China!

In this exhibit, we saw the Panda bears. This bear kept sitting by the door just like this! He was funny.

Miles liked getting to see the pandas up close.

Then, Miles spotted another water fountain. He tried getting in it, too, but Matt literally held him back.

Next up on our tour of the zoo was Cat Country, also one of my favorites.

Miles and Honey love kitty cats...

...and tigers.

Miles got to walk around a little bit in Cat Country, too, with help of course!

The lions were so big and beautiful.

The big male lion wouldn't come out of hiding. You can kind of see him at the edge of the cave.

Miles liked looking at the lions, too.

While Matt enjoyed the penguins the best!

All in all it was a very wonderful day, filled with laughter, love, and amazing animals. I was tickled pink to spend it with my mom and Meemaw, too. It's going to be hard to top that Mother's Day, and it was only my 2nd one. I am looking forward to many more with my two favorite guys, who treated me to YoLo when we got back to Jackson.

14 months

Miles is growing up too fast. I'd like time to slow down, but I know it can't. That is why I am trying to cherish each and every moment with this sweet, young fella.

On April 28th, he turned 14 months.

Here are some of this month's MILESstones:

  • I now have 12 teeth--8 up front on top and bottom, 2 bottom molars and 2 top molars.
  • I talk jibberish all the time.
  • I can say, "DaDa" "MaMa" "Dah" (dog) and "Hi".
  • I love to dance and stomp my feet.
  • I am wearing size 5 diapers now.
  • I am still wearing 18-24 month, 2T, and 3T clothes.
  • I still don't like eating vegetables.
  • I LOVE going outside to play.
  • I am beginning to stand on my tippy toes.
  • I can climb up and down from the couch.
  • I LOVE reading books.

Miles tried Diet DP at Honey's house. He really liked it.

Miles' favorite books are Llama Llama.

Miles also likes playing with the "dah" or dogs. He was at PDO the other day and his teacher asked Matt if we have dogs. Matt reluctantly said yes because he thought she was going to complain about dog hair or something. However, Mrs. Holly (Miles' teacher at PDO) said that the class was looking at animal flash cards. She said when she flipped to the dog one, Miles went nuts and started screaming and talking and pointing to the card. He loves his Luke and Roxie.

13.1.....and I'm not Done!!

On April 26th, we traveled to Nashville where I ran in my very first half marathon. Honey, NeNe, Mommie Cica, Matt, Miles and I ventured to the Music City on Friday. Cara and I checked in--she ran her first race (the mini marathon which was 2.6 miles).

We stayed Friday night at the Opryland Hotel. A BIG THANKS TO MY HUBBY FOR BOOKING US SUCH A NICE ROOM! We ate there that night at a sports bar, where Miles got to grub out on some french fries.

The next morning we woke up and Matt took Cara and I to Cenntenial Park where there were thousands of other runners getting ready to run....

...in the rain? Yes! It poured the entire time, which for me was 2 hours 1 minute and 10 seconds. Cara finished her 2.6 in a good time too!

Even though it rained, we finished our races! Now we are planning on running the Color Me Rad 5K in Little Rock in June, and Cara is running the St. Jude half marathon while I run the full marathon in Memphis in December.

Please visit www.stjudemarathon.org to see how you can help our team raise $1,000 for the children of St. Jude.
